Medical Tourism Infrastructure coming to Guanacaste
The best news in years for the slumping economy in Costa Rica especially in the province of Gunacaste is the long heralded ground breaking for several major infrastructure projects, and the near completion of several major telecommunication initiatives country wide. First the ongoing construction of the Cima anex in liberia Guanacaste will bring one of the worlds finest medical care facilities to the tourist regions. The long trek to San Jose for emergencies and other care will no longer be required, as several state of the art Hospital complexes have either broken ground or are still in the planning stages. Hospital Cima has broken ground on a 125 million dollar annex in association with Grupo Do It the plan is to combine retirement living, golf, natural beauty, and of course first class health care to the region. Medical tourism is the underlying drive behind these projects. With an ever spiraling cost of health care in the United States in particular, Costa Rica has become an increasingly attractive option for many under or self insured Americans. Hospital Clinica Biblica also has it’s own plans in concert with grupo do It and the Sun Ranch Retirement community. However their planned ground breaking has been delayed until further notice.
Additional infrastructure projects with a high impact on the future of tourism and economic growth include Proyecto Frontera a Frontera (border to border). Frontera a Frontera is an immense project, and is being implemented by an Israeli Telecommunications company. ICE expects the project to be complete during the first three months of next year; so far, workers have laid 40% of the fiber-optic network, which will expand from the northern border town of Peñas Blancas to Paso Canoas, in the Southern Zone, and from the Caribbean port of Limón to the central Pacific city of Quepos. Considering that Costa Rica is the landing point for the Pan American Crossing submarine cables that provide links to South and Central America, parts of the Caribbean, and the US at the completion of this project Costa rica will be officially “Hooked Up” with the latest telecommunication Infrastructure. This is a giant leap into the 21st century and credit must be given to forward thinking members of Government.
So after many years of talk about the biggest problems in Costa Rica being the lack of Infrastructure people can now plan ahead for a country that can no longer be legitimately called third world.
